Now that I have two decades under my belt, I am able to look back on my hairstyles and think “who let me go out like that?” and “where was my hairbrush for the entire year of 2000?” And that is what I am here to share with you today!

Of course, I could post photos of my hair in junior high, but then I’d have to kill all of you because ERGLACK, it was bad. It was blonde, mainly, but very curly and gross with awful bangs. Thankfully, none of these photos have manifested online, but here is a close example from when I was about 15ish and clearly hadn’t thought about making my hair look nice before busting out the webcam.

Please note how it is, like, a shade of toxic yellow… that is not a camera flaw, it was actually pretty close to that colour. Also, my glasses are not very attractive, and why I ever thought a baby blue Angel sweater was nice, I’ll never know.

For a while, I continued to favour blonde, even though it washes me out. In grade 11, I went through a curly haired phase, with bangs which wasn’t too bad, but made me look about 10.

One Hallowe’en, I used this black wash out colour for my costume. Unfortunately, the colour had a blue base. I was blonde. I’m sure you all know your colours. In an effort to cover the green, which WOULD NOT wash out, I attempted to dye my hair brown… and the green SHOWED THROUGH, leaving this mouldy greenish brown colour.

Luckily, high school was coming to an end, and I was finally starting to gain some sense. For a few months, my hair looked normal. It was a nice, normal colour and a manageable length that looked pleasant both straight and curled:

In Katimavik, I didn’t really have money for a hair cut, so it continued to grow, and it still looked okay most of the time, albeit a bit strangely multicoloured, and a tad frizzy:

All good things must come to an end, however, and by the following summer, it was starting to look a bit freaky, so be honest, all gross and tangly at the bottom. And who has super long straight hair these days? I felt like a hippy. Not to mention all the work it took to make it look that crappy! The ends were so gross I had to brush them constantly because they would just tangle!

So, finally, I chopped it:

And then, then after 10 years of switching back and forth between varying shades of blonde, and varing shades of dark brown (with some crazy experimental colours thrown in for good teenage measure, of course), something possessed me to try auburn.

And apparently, I should have tried it sooner, because I’ve NEVER had more positive comments on my hair in my life!

Which brings me to present day:

SoOoOooo… what do you guys think of how my hair has progressed? Any particular shade or style that you prefer? :P

Even more interesting, how often have you changed your hair? Has it gone through a transformation like mine?

OR, how WOULD you do your hair if you could? The new year is a time for reinvention, after all! For example, I’d LOVE to do some black and hot pink, but my work won’t let me. :(
