I am a big Tegan and Sara fan. So, when I heard they were coming to town… I was sad, because I had nobody to go with! So, I didn’t buy a ticket. But THEN, my friend Kaitlin and some of her friends were going, and one of her friends couldn’t make it, so I was off to Tegan and Sara land, and yay!

Aussie band An Horse opened for them. I had heard of them before (all good things!) but had never heard their music. I must say they were quite good, it’s hard to believe there are only two of them (guitarist/vocalist Kate and drummer Damon). Definitely adding their album to my “to download” list. :)

And then there was TEGAN AND SARA. Unfortunately, after a long day of work, I forgot to be sensible and sneak a camera in, so I have no pics. But let me try and illustrate this for you:

Yes, I am a design student. :P

Highlights of the show included… uhh… everything that Tegan did, ever. (I play favourites, sorry.) Not to say that Sara wasn’t also extremely charming. This was one of two shows the girls did in Calgary, which is their “hometown.” They actually went to the same high school as me, only ten years earlier. My broadcasting teacher used to mention them. Not sure if the show was super excellent because it was hometown show, or just because that’s how they are, but it was fab.

They played a really good amount of old vs. new songs. We heard all of our favourites, but they also played their entire new album, Sainthood, which is actually becoming my favourite of theirs.

I love everything Tegan Quin does.

They also made everyone, those who prefer to sit and those who prefer to stand, “compromise” by designating parts of the set for sitting and parts for standing. Very cute. Also cute is just the way they interact with each other in general. They argue and interrupt each other, and quite a few times I found myself laughing nearly hysterically. For example, when Tegan declared that we’d reached the “Hella Depressing” part of the set. Sara insisted that it was more of a reflective experience, so that people wouldn’t think “Oh, it’s depressing, let’s go to the bathroom.” Tegan backpeddled a bit by saying that it wasn’t time to go to the bathroom, but maybe more time to think about going to the gym tomorrow, and eating healthier. “I don’t need a BigMac, a hamburger is enough!” And the rest of us laughed. A lot.

Since it was a hometown show, as I mentioned, they had a tonne of friends and family in the audience. So at one point near the end, they made us all be quiet, turned on the house lights (lights over the audience) and clapped for the audience, yelling stuff like “You’re hot!”

As I said, they played a tonne of songs that I loved, and their encore was especially sweet, mainly just the two of them. Also, they finished the night off with “Living Room” which is actually one of my overall favourite songs of all time, so I was pretty pumped.

Overall, my first Tegan and Sara show was AMAZING and I can’t wait for them to come back so I can see them again! Definitely in my top 10 favourite concerts of my life so far!
