Not the kind that sparkles, unfortunately.
Rather, I spend each summer sick from heat, and usually burned purple, even in minimal sun exposure. For example, yesterday I spent 5 hours outside. Mainly because I forgot the sort of things that happen to me, over the long, cold winter, but also because it was warm, and I am human, and I enjoy vitamin D. I had SPF 30 sunscreen on, and yet still managed to burn half of my face (I apparently only faced the sun in the same direction, despite switching to different benches throughout the afternoon). I even have icky red splotches under my clothes, where the sun didn’t even hit! I spent all last night in that delirious heat-exhausted state between awake and sleep, lightheaded and vomitty.
I suppose it was worth it? I mean, I got to hang out with my friends, including my friend Nikol, who is one of my favourite people, and is moving to Yellowknife on Friday. I mean, I couldn’t have not spent time with her, since time is running out, and spending time indoors is so lame. And then, I missed my last bus home by 3 minutes, so I had two options 1) wait in the sun for 20 minutes for the next bus, or 2) walk home from the loop in the sun for 30 minutes, and get home 20 minutes earlier than if I had waited for the bus. I picked number 2, for obvious reasons, and also because… you know, exercise is nice. And I love vitamin D. And my iPod was playing good tunes. You know, all excellent trade-offs for being cooked from the inside.
I am a pathetic individual.
Aww, that stinks
I have a friend who’s really sensitive to sun and sunburns so easily! I’m extremely fortunate (as I only realized this year), because I never sunburn. I tan occasionally (or, I would, but I wear 70 SPF sunscreen in the summer, no joke), but I cannot remember the last time I sunburned. has your doctor give you any sort of solution? I hope you feel better soon!
I feel your pain, Aisling. I am also like this. I spend ten minutes in the sun & poof I burn. I don’t tan I burn. My parents joke that I should be a lobster in the summer due to the reddness I show. We have no idea where my pale colored skin tone comes from, but I have it. Then to make matters worse the medication that I take to try & control my seizures makes my exposure to the sun even worse. So I can have about five minutes in the full sun before it starts making me feel sick. So I have learned to where sun screen everywhere & a hat. But then I have also learn to deal with being indoors all the time too.
Give yourself some credit! You lasted a long time @ Warped Tour last year before you had to go see the medics! And recovered quickly the next day. Perhaps you just need to build up your tolerance over the summer? And drink lost of water.
I don’t tan or burn, I stay gothically pale all year round. That might be because Scotland has almost no sun though. Quite a few of Scotland’s major health problems can apparently be attributed to the fact that a high percentage of the population have vitamin D deficiency, because we very rarely see sunshine and when we do we aren’t used to it. Meaning we stay indoors because we know we’ll burn(or in my case, because it’s weird everywhere being so light). We’re a country that can only function when it’s cold and rainy. :L
Burned purple?! I’ve never heard of that before. I have super sensitive skin, but luckily I think my years living in Australia has toughened it up a little to sunlight. Which is good, cause I’m allergic to 99% of the sunscreens out there
I totally understand where your coming from. I joke that I am a color of a napkin. My boyfriend tells me they don’t make make-up clear. I don’t tan. Never have been able to and never will. I burn if I look at the sun wrong. I try to wear lots of clothes but it is so hard when its warm and pretty. You totally want to be outside hanging out since you have been inside all winter.
I have try to stay in the shade most of the time or I end up going in because I can’t enjoy myself.
Good luck with the sun this coming up year. Maybe it will work out for you. Maybe stronger sun block.
*hugs* Your not a lone in the world of pale.
I get burnt easily too because I’m naturally pale. The only good thing that comes out of that is that you get a BEAUTIFUL golden tan after all the painful redness and flaky skin goes away.
Hooray for heat allergies. I was put on anti-nausea meds over summer because the heat was making me so freakin’ ill… and I barely ever went outside!
I’m the same way with the sun. Although, I’ve slowly started to build up a bit of a tolerance to the sun. =P Doesn’t help much at the beach or the park. I still get burned like hella crazy and end up looking like a dried up tomato. =(
I’m exactly the same way. I tend to avoid the sun because I get burnt so easily. I like the sun…I just don’t want to get skin cancer. Whenever I do go out into the sun, I have to wear sunscreen for babies (SPF 50). I’m always pale, and I have to take a vitamin D supplement.
I am so a vampire too lol! I absolutely can not stand being out in the sun! I don’t burn, I just don’t like being hot. I just use the excuse that the sun fades tattoos and I paid good money for my ink, and do not want them fading!
... I am an actual vampire. ...
